This was definitely a hard fought game on both sides. Kudos to Gerrard for getting the early goal for England. But that was a tough defensive breakdown for the US and Howard was on the crap on of it. Defense shouldn't have been out of position. But oh man did Howard step up strong in this match up! Best Goaltender showing up the cup thus far. England came in strong as expected but the US showed that they were up to the challenge. Clint Dempsey's goal may have been lucky been the fact comes down to sometimes that's what it takes. Green screwed up and let Dempsey's shot skip over his hands and he is going to have to accept that 1) that could be the biggest blunder of his career and 2) lucky or not, he got scored on by the US.

There were definitely moments of brilliance for the US; Donovan's great passing, Altidore showing his speed and power getting past the English defense (damn post), the US looking to use Findley's speed, Howard's great showing in the net, ect. The US showed up and played hard.

Call it luck. Call it whatever you want. I call it a tie against a great team and a point in our group.

*Also note that the US has never won a game in the World Cup where the other team has scored first. So them coming back to tie is a good start to breaking that streak.
